What it takes to be a Gentleman Today

Titles just like fashion and words wear out with time. Defining who a gentleman is can be a bit hard considering the fact each generation seems to define it differently. Whatever your definition is, being a gentleman is very important. If you don’t know if you make the cut, here is a checklist for today’s gentleman:

1.Grooming

Lest face it, nobody would want to hang out with a man who is untidy and smelly. A real gentleman should always take a shower, get a clean shave and maybe try a nice scent. The point is to ensure that you create a pleasant air around you.

With that said, being a gentleman in the 21st century takes more than just being clean. Your outward look says a lot about your personality. That is why every man should choose their clothes wisely. Make sure that they are sharp and well-coordinated. Don’t stop there. Go a mile further by throwing in a fashion statement or two.

Spicing up your look with matching jewelry like bracelets, necklaces or even rings can go a step further to reinforce your confidence, attitude and class.

A gentleman cares about how he looks and works hard to make sure that he stands out.

2.Good Manners

If you lack manners, then you don’t even deserve to be called a man; let alone a gentleman. To earn that title, you have to know the difference between confidence and arrogance.  Having a high self-esteem is not okay for you to be bossy and proud. You have to draw the line and make sure that arrogance doesn’t get in the way.

How about being kind? Some men might think that being kind is a sign of weakness. That is wrong. Strength is shown in the ability to be as human as possible while maintaining respect. Kindness defines a gentleman.

Most people are put off by men who are disrespectful and inconsiderate. When a man fails to respect others, it mirrors their inability to respect themselves. So, for you to earn that title, you have to listen to what people have to say and give them the respect they deserve. Being rude is out of the question.

Good manners extend to keeping time. Have you ever told somebody to meet you and then they showed up two hours later? It is very annoying. Any man with self-respect knows how to respect other people’s time by showing up at the agreed time.

3.Being Interesting and Informed

Part of being a gentleman is knowing what is going on in the world. It is the only way that you can have intelligent conversations with people and become interesting. Nobody would want to discuss issues with a man who is clueless. The only way to stay dated, whether it is in fashion, relationships or economic trends is to know what is going on all the time.

It is not enough to just be a man. Being a gentleman is the real deal. As you can see, you have to earn it. Take a step towards it and you will create value for yourself and those around you. Being a gentleman defines the character of a man.
